Roommates

First of all, I live by myself so I am currently an “anti roommate” gal. However I once was a huge fan of them.

I think the thumbs up or thumbs down position on the topic comes down to a few things. Where you are in your life personally. Where you are in your life financially. And whether or not you’ve had the pleasure of living with the roommate from hell that will put you off bunking up with someone ever again.

I lived with roommates for five years and can now officially say I will never live with another one as long as I live (excluding serious bfs/husband). I prefer to come through my door, kick off my shoes, toss my coat on the floor and not worry about anyone else getting pissed. (then I’d run around picking up my coat and shoes because truth-be-told I’m a neat freak.)

But a lot of people really like living with someone so lets take a look at the pros…

Well, you have someone to share the bills with. You have someone you can turn to and confide in when you need a shoulder to cry on. Someone you can celebrate great news with. I guess you’ll have a sense of safety knowing you’re not alone in your place. You always have someone to hang out with…

But hang on. Stop the violins for a minute people. Before you wander too far down the “roommates are heavenly” road, lets backtrack a second and re-visit the roommate from hell. Because in my books? The milk-finishing, TV remote losing, party throwing, mood-swinging, bathroom-hogging, non-dish-washing, short-on-rent-money roommate trumps all the other warm and fuzzy reasons.

Now you may say I’m being a glass-half-empty girl. But the reality is it’s my glass and I’m free to fill that sucker back up anytime I want!

Peace

Jill
